Bryce Vandenhaak Breaks Whatcom County Record

Is he a running back? Is he a wide receiver? It doesn’t matter, he’s an offensive weapon. Much like Joel Pears was almost 20 years ago, Meridian senior Bryce Vandenhaak has shown time and time again the ability to make huge plays. And, when he caught his third touchdown pass in the first half he broke Rocki Sandusky’s 12-year old Whatcom County record for touchdown receptions in a season. Vandenhaak now has 18, and the season isn’t over. He will have the postseason to add to his record.

Nooksack Valley at Lynden Christian Tonight Will Be HUGE!

There will be a lot of big games tonight, but none bigger than the rematch of the Pioneers and the Lyncs. The winner will travel to Sultan next week for a shot at the state tournament! These two school have had memorable battles over the years. They battled it out for the League Championship in 1989. They had the two most talented squads in the Whatcom County League in 1993. They have each enjoyed long winning streaks against each other. Shown below is a breakdown of each game they have played against each other since 1975.

Ja’Lique Martin Closing in on Sophomore Receiving Record

Before the 2017 season started, some Squalicum players and coaches had told me to look out for Ja’Lique Martin. Not only has the 5-foot-11 160-pound sophomore produced, but he has made some outstanding plays. It also doesn’t matter what position he’s playing. He returns kicks, he runs fly sweeps, he’s intercepted three passes on defense, he’s even taken a few dozen snaps at quarterback! But, he has really shined at wide receiver. He has made miraculous catches, out-leaping opponents, and some one-handed. He also has amazing agility, leaving defenders in the dust and he’s been extremely hard to tackle. He’s just a great football player.

He has 36 catches so far this season, which ties him for fifth all-time for receptions in a sophomore season.
